A meaningful way to express thankfulness to our public safety officers is to help the children behind the badge – specifically, by helping families of firefighters and police officers defray the mounting costs associated with higher education.
As the need and requests for scholarship assistance increase, the two scholarship funds described above must be reinforced.
The upcoming Greenville Heroes: Serve & Protect Awards Luncheon is a special event planned to recognize the sacrifices firefighters, police officers and their families make for our community. In addition to bringing mindfulness to our local heroes, the event will provide important financial support for deserving children by increasing scholarship funds available. (Please note that all sponsorship dollars and other donations will be collected by the Greenville Community Foundation and proceeds from the event divided equally between the two funds. Further, the costs for the event will be underwritten by Auro Hotels, strengthening the impact of your sponsorship commitment.)
Our hope is that you will participate with us as we strive to thank members of the Greenville City Police and Fire Departments for their commitment to our community while expanding the scholarship funds that assist their families. Thank you for your consideration of our request.
The Harold C. Jennings Foundation was formed to give financial aid to deserving children, both academically and financially, of Greenville City police officers including those whose parent is retired, disabled, or killed in the line of duty. Since its formation in 1977, a total of 447 scholarships totaling $784,390 have been granted.
The Rama Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Greenville City Fire Department was established by the Rama family in 2006. Held at the Greenville Community Foundation, the fund provides undergraduate and vocational scholarships to students who are employees or children of employees of the Greenville City Fire Department. Since 2008, 88 scholarships totaling $51,372 have been given.
Why Should I Sponsor? Our police officers and firefighters are deserving of our respect, honor and appreciation. A meaningful way to express thankfulness to our public safety officers is to help the children behind the badge – specifically, by helping families of firefighters and police officers defray the mounting costs associated with higher education. Your sponsorship will help these children (below) and many others!
